Accepted- SDSU Masters in Education with a Concentration in Counseling

/

ACCEPTED!!!

I created this blog for a variety of reasons, but one of them was to offer people a look into what this masters program is like.

Whenever I am considering doing anything in life, I research the hell out of it. However, when it came to this particular graduate program, the internet was uninhabited with any resources that would give any insight as to what this program is like. (Donald Trump’s classified documents have seen more light.)

Nonetheless, I did find a couple of things. I saw many videos of past students’ application videos (it’s required to get into the program, btw), which was helpful when I was working on my own. I also saw a few student’s videos from their classes. It seems like there is quite a bit of group work. Group work is not my favorite, but I’m hoping that because it is grad school, more people will do their part.

For those of you deciding whether or not this program is right for you amongst other programs, I would think about what my ultimate goal is.

There are counselors that work in school and provide services like therapy. That usually requires a masters and a PPS credential, which this program does not offer. If you would like to be a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), this program is not for you. Although this program does overlap with a lot of those other types of programs, you will not work towards any licensing in those fields. However, you will earn a Restorative Justice and Trauma Informed Care Certificate.

I am a 3rd grade teacher and I love what I do. I just wanted to be better equipped to help my students with their mental health issues. I also aspire to be an outreach coordinator in my school district. Thus, this program is right up my alley.

I haven’t seen much besides that. So far, I’ve been accepted. I’ll let you know how the rest goes as best as I can. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments! 🙂
